Preventive Dentistry is our goal.

It means to put measures in place to prevent you getting problems, rather than waiting for an issue. This term encompasses everything we do and includes:

How to Floss

Regular hygiene appointments

We want to avoid you getting gum disease. This can cause things like bad breath (halitosis), swollen and red gums and eventually loose and wobbly teeth. That’s not all though. Chronic inflammation of your gums has also been linked to increased risk of other diseases like cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Replacing older fillings

Amalgam has served dentistry for a century but it has some major faults. It doesn’t look like your tooth, it doesn’t stick to your tooth and as it ages it can cause a fracture of your tooth. It also contains metals like mercury. We use tooth coloured fillings and ceramics to replace amalgam. Not only do these look much more natural, they are stronger and better able to protect your tooth.

Your smile needs to last a lifetime. If you or your child are a sports person, then wearing a custom fitted mouthguard made by a qualified dental technician is much more effective at protecting your teeth than the “boil and bite” mouthguards you buy over the counter at retail stores.

If you find that you are clenching your jaw, or are grinding (bruxing) your teeth at night and/ or during the day, you run the risk of damaging your teeth by attrition (wearing down), as well as placing too much pressure on the jaw joints over time.

If unaddressed, this may have serious long term implications for your teeth and jaw.
So, whether you are going through a rough patch and find you are grinding and clenching your teeth due to stress, or whether you are habitually clenching and grinding you teeth, we can work with you to determine the best course of action.
